Kayak no 9

Work on the stern continues. not much to say about it, glued with white glue for outdoor use and peged. I put the pegs in the many directions, I imagine to be more durable.

The bow is glued. The entire hull was very stiff as soon all clamps were in place.

What most worries me is that I have not received the hull sufficiently straight. I have not found any info on how important it is that the keel is super straight, it may show at the first water test.

Then Ihave peged the hole kayak exept the keel, I have even had time to saw off the excess piece. I'm Feeling Lucky whit white glue for outdoor use.

Then I continued with the stern. There will be a round-planed plank holding up / reinforcing stern area.

Epoxy is messy!

Then the hull was almost completely glued together, the bottom stringer must be glued when I have lift it from the strongback. The bow is also left to glue.

In the case of epoxy, I will next time buy smaller packages whit a pump. I believe that I have used more than maybe 100-150 grams epoxy to the building + 400 grams mess because jar packaging.

Many cable ties. I first clamp the stringer whit a clamp and then "secure" it with cable ties, it seemed like a good solution.

I have made a form for the coming, not really happy with the form but it's good enough for now.
I have also started with a steam box, will see how it turns out.

It has been a lot time whit me thinking the last few days. The next step will be to mount all the stringers and the two gunwales.

There have been a few days without me buildin on the kayak. During that time I have had time to get the 457 m simulated sinew from kulan trading, what I should do whit 457 m? Even a pack of needles from Panduro. and flower pins to make the pegs.

I also had time to do some gluing with epoxy. Have stuck the bow and stern pieces of the keel then stuck on the keel sections

Then it was time to test all parts, some of the parts sat as glued at some points and with quite a lot of flex on the other. I have decided to join the bottom two lines stringers on each side when they were to bumpy. Also noticed too many small branches. Branches did not appear to be a problem when the planks were 200 x 22 mm but cutted to 19 x 19 mm they were large enough to crack the whole string.

The absolute bottom stringer must be mounted when I removed the kayak from strongback when the bracket for the cross section 1 and 6 are in the way. It had not been possible to make the bracket for the Section 6 narrower.

Then spruce planks purchased, 550 cm / 18 ft long. Hard work whit the table saw, it would be 6 stringers, 2 gunwales, keel 1 st and 1 st deckridge.

A provisional saw table aboute 10 meters long was built.

How in Hxxxxxxll can a straight plank be as bumpy as this is when it is sawn.
